Mother’s Day

On Sunday, we went to the Mother’s Day Paint-In at Hatley Castle. The weather was perfect; not too warm, and not too cold. We bought some handmade soap and fudge, ate good food, and wandered around the castle grounds. Hatley Castle would have been my first choice as a location to get married if it wasn’t so expensive. It’s beautiful. I’d love to go back later in the summer when the gardens are in full bloom.

The male peacock opened his feathers as we walked by. We thought he was showing off to us until we realized there was a female behind us. Regardless, he was beautiful, and very tame. We could walk right up to him, though of course I was careful not to let Meredith to close to his head.

These yoyo balloons were the hit of the fair I think. They cost a toonie, and most kids we saw were wandering around with them. We didn't have any cash when we first saw them, but Meredith was intrigued. Kris told her we'd buy her one later. We had a toonie a little later, and she started shouting "Ball!" and waving her arms around like she was bouncing the yoyo balloon.

Best toonie we've ever spent!

“Birds fly, fish swim, man thinks and learns. Therefore, we do not need to “motivate” children into learning, by wheedling, bribing, or bullying. We do not need to keep picking away at their minds to make sure they are learning. What we need to do, and all we need to do is bring as much of the world as we can into [their lives]; give children as much help and guidance as they need and ask for; listen respectfully when they feel like talking; and then get out of the way. We can trust them to do the rest.”
