 Life has been pretty good to us lately. We did end up putting an offer on a house. We decided the 10-acre place would be too complicated and most banks aren’t willing to finance a mobile without a huge down deposit. This whole buying a house thing is complicated. The day before we were going a ten-acre property popped up on the listings our realtor sends us, so I had called him to ask if we could add that one to the list. We went and saw that one first. [...]  I didn’t post much about my garden this year, mostly because I wasn’t blogging much during the period when I was gardening a lot and getting lots of stuff out of it. I wanted to post about the progress this year though and some thoughts for myself to think about for next year. First [...]  We have looked at real estate on and off for years. A couple of years ago we drove way out to Cowichan Lake to look at a fixer-upper on 1/3 of an acre that we could barely afford. And when the listing said fixer-upper, it actually meant, this house is in pieces, the bathroom [...]  A pantry challenge basically means to go through your cupboards, refrigerator, and freezer, do a good clean out of anything that may not be usable anymore, and take inventory of everything else. Then, you make a meal plan based on that inventory. The goal is to buy as little as possible besides [...]  I never really got “nesty” with my last pregnancy. I wanted to nest, but between the constant nausea in the first and second trimester, and the horrible heart burn (I feel so sorry for anyone who gets heart burn regularly, I sometimes think that was worse than the puking) and achiness in the third [...]  I’ve been a bit neglectful of my blog recently. Once again, I have lots to say and no time to say it in. It always seems to be the way. For today, here’s my Snapshot Sunday from yesterday. Potatoes from the garden. I’d almost given up on getting any potatoes [...]  I’m both disappointed and very pleased with my garden. The back part, where the carrots, beets, onion, etc. were, sprouted a lot of sprouts very early, and then they just stopped growing. And then I found cat poo and there are paw prints from something digging. I’ve given up on anything growing there until [...] 
My very first homegrown food ever! My family had a garden growing up, but this is different. We did all the work ourselves. It’s such a small thing in the scheme of things, but hopefully the start of something much bigger. Meredith and I shared the strawberry, and it was delicious. I ended up transplanting our hydrangea where it used to be as I’ve read hydrangeas don’t like full sun anyway and it gives me more room for veggies. [...] |
