I have set some goals for myself as far as scrapbooking. Meredith’s is still not done. Neither is my wedding album. I’ve since started digital scrapbooking, which is easier and more realistic with children, because I can sit down for twenty minutes and get a bit done and not have to worry about set up or putting things away. So I’ve been working on Fiona’s which is digital. I actually started it over a year ago.

I would like to finish all three of these, though I’m not sure what a realistic goal is. I can finish a spread in one session of working if I get a good chunk of time, but that doesn’t happen a lot. A full double spread a week is probably realistic, which means over a year to finish what’s left on all three of them. Anyway, here are some of the ones I’ve been working on recently for Fiona’s (click for bigger images).

I might change some of the backgrounds and/or paper still, but I’m just glad to be getting something done! I am using this “My Sweet Baby” collection to do the book and bought a cute scrapbook I’ll eventually put the pages into.

Kris took Meredith to see Shrek 4 in theatres today, so I got a bit of time by myself. Fiona ended up falling asleep in one arm, so I decided to just take advantage and relax and ended up starting her baby book. I’ve decided to do hers completely digitally. There are a few things still that need to be changed or tweaked (for example, I apparently don’t have the non-watermarked versions of the professional pictures on my computer so I’ll need to get my disk and switch out those pictures), but overall I’m pretty happy with them so far. The shadows look very pronounced for some reason in the web versions, they will be much more subtle when printed. Click on the pictures to see them bigger.

I may use this picture instead (though in a sepia tone, not stark black and white, I just have to get it off the disk):

Then here is the next page. I may switch around the order of some of the pictures, but otherwise I’m pretty happy with it.

I haven’t left room for margins. I won’t be printing them as a book, I’ll have individual 12×12 pages printed and then put them in an album that way, I just like how that looks better for some reason. I’ve heard that way a lot less ends up cropped off the edges, so I hope that’s true. I’m trying to find some place that would let me print out one or two as samples to check, but with shipping it often ends up being pretty expensive to just print out one or two pages. I guess it would be cheaper than printing out an entire album and discovering I don’t like something about it though!

The next page will be all the professional pregnancy pictures we had done, and then I’ll work on the labour and delivery page. I still haven’t finished Meredith’s scrapbook either, but hers is all paper scrapbooking and it’s so much harder to just spend 20 minutes at a time working on it because I have to get everything out and then put it away again. I have a big 6 foot craft table upstairs now though that has all my sewing stuff on it. I think I may clear off the sewing stuff and use it to try to finish Meredith’s book (and, uh, my wedding album lol).

In my search to find a good place to print out my scrapbook pages, I stumbled across this site that I thought some people might be interested in if you want to make a book out of your blog. I’ve heard good things about them, but haven’t used them myself so don’t consider this an endorsement yet! Unfortunately, it seems they only can do web-based blogs right now (blogspot, typepad, and wordpress.com), so if you have any other sort of blog you would have to transfer all the data manually to another blog site in order to print it. I am on the look out for one that offers printing for WordPress blogs that aren’t on the WordPress server though. I may just make a scrapbook out of my blog posts, or something along those lines.

And speaking of scrapbooking, I thought I’d share a page I finished recently that I am pretty happy with.

I’ve been pretty quiet, but I want to start writing more again. I keep telling myself that I’ll have more to say when Meredith is a little older and we can do some fun activities and experiments together, but I realized that part of the reason I haven’t been writing as much is because we already do tons of fun things together every day and I’m too busy to find the time to write. They’re just not necessarily things people would be interested in reading about. But I might be interested in a few years and Meredith might be too.

Also, I have really loved reading the Unplug Your Kids theme projects and seeing the creative things people come up with, and lamenting that Meredith isn’t old enough to do things like that with. But I think I’m going to try and make an effort to come up with ideas that she will enjoy too, even if I end up doing most of the “work” for them.

One thing I’ve taken up lately that I tend to do while Meredith naps (and thus it takes up valuable blogging time) is digital scrapbooking. I’d like to write a little about that here (and I posted a picture of one recent favorite below too). I’d also like to write about the birth of a friend’s baby that I was lucky enough to be there for.

I’ve also finally updated my blogroll bar and added a few new blogs that I’ve discovered and have been enjoying. I’ve been reading my favorite blogs daily in my RSS feed, but not actually taking the time to go to them and leave comments. I know how much I love and appreciate any comments I get here though, so I’m going to make an effort to start commenting on other blogs again too.
